Kathleen MacPherson: Dedication Speaks to Underlying Values

Thanks for 16 years of leadership!

After 16 years with United Way of Calgary and Area, Kathleen MacPherson, Vice President of Campaign and Resource Development, will be embarking on a new opportunity.

Kathleen’s many years with United Way speaks to her dedication and underlying values. Her leadership, project management, campaign best practice, fundraising, and volunteering expertise have made significant contributions to the organization over the years. As the driving force for innovative annual campaigns, her focus to maximize revenues and opportunities for partnerships consistently resulted in high impact campaigns and unwavering respect from corporate Calgary.

“I feel honoured to have had the opportunity to work with Kathleen, she has been a pivotal force within our organization and a fabulous mentor to many of our staff. We will miss her dearly, and would like to recognize her for all of her hard work in helping us build a resilient and caring community where everyone thrives.”
Karen Young, President & CEO, United Way of Calgary and Area

During her time with United Way, Kathleen has been directly involved in raising more than $800 million for the organization, growing the annual campaign from $28 million when she first started, to over $50 million today. She has mentored and coached hundreds of staff, instilling a donor-centered focus on relationships and stewardship.

“I had no idea what I was getting into when I agreed to be the Campaign Co-Chair with Mick Dilger in 2016. But all doubts and fears disappeared when I met Kathleen and understood she would be my shepherd through the campaign. She had an incredible way of understanding what our donors needed. She was unfailingly optimistic, despite the economic challenges we were facing in the community. Kathleen never saw any door as being locked and truly believed in the importance and purpose of the United Way.”
Deborah Yedlin, 2016 United Way Campaign Co-Chair

Kathleen’s leadership with Salesforce.org Philanthropy Cloud, her 2014 role as Co-Chair of National Philanthropy Week, and becoming a recipient of the Outstanding Fundraising Professional Award all speak to her successes as a trusted and renowned fundraising professional.

“Kathleen’s focus on building partnerships with volunteers, donors, and corporations has improved the lives of thousands of vulnerable individuals and families in Calgary and area. Her hands-on approach ensured the success of United Way’s annual campaign each year. Kathleen leaves an indelible footprint on United Way, and she will be greatly missed by our staff and volunteers.”
Rhonda Roth, Vice President, Individual Giving & Investor Relations

Those who have worked with Kathleen know her as a fearless leader, someone always willing to step up and help, who always has her door open, and who nurtures a fun and solutions-focused culture among her team.

We wish Kathleen all the best with her new venture, and sincerely thank her for the years of dedication and commitment that she has invested into this organization.

“It has been my honour and privilege to work with so many talented volunteers and staff at United Way over the last 16 years to help individuals and families in our city that need support. I am very proud to have been able to contribute to the direction and impact of United Way and will continue to be an ambassador and supporter!”
